GURGAON: A bus carrying 45 employees of auto manufacturer Maruti was hit by a truck at Vatika Chowk around 5.30am on Saturday. According to police, 36 employees were injured, most with minor wounds.
“The bus was travelling from the Sohna side towards the city and had just crossed the traffic signal at the intersection when the truck, loaded with cement bags, crashed into it. It toppled over and landed on its side,” Badshapur SHO Satish Deshpal said.
Passersby rushed the injured to Medanta — The Medicity. An eyewitness told TOI that both vehicles were being driven at a high speed. “After the collision, a few of us called the police. They arrived around 6.45am,” he said.
The police arranged for a crane to lift the overturned bus and clear the road.
Doctors at Medanta said five of the injured passengers that arrived there are still undergoing treatment and are likely to be discharged soon, while the others were sent home after a few hours.
Deepak Kumar, the owner of the bus, said, “The bus ferries Maruti employees to and from work. Around 40-45 people were on the bus going to Maruti Kunj on Saturday. Unfortunately, the bus met with an accident, causing injuries to many, including the bus driver Pradeep Kumar. He suffered fractures and deep wounds and is currently undergoing treatment at a health facility in Badshapur.”
On the bus owner’s complaint, police filed an FIR at the Badshapur station against the unidentified truck driver later on Saturday but didn’t disclose any details about the investigation.
“Both the truck and the bus have been seized. The investigation details will be provided by the police spokesperson. The FIR will soon be made available,” the SHO said.
