In a tragic incident reported by the police, three female laborers lost their lives, while four others sustained critical injuries on Tuesday in the Pataudi area of Gurugram. The incident occurred during the excavation of a pond in Darapur village. At around 10:30 am, a substantial mound of mud, approximately six feet high, collapsed onto the group of eight laborers, leading to this devastating incident. The excavation work was being carried out under the MGNREGA, which is a rural employment scheme.
While seven of the laborers remained trapped under the mound, one of them named Kiran Devi managed to free herself and immediately raised an alarm. Local villagers rushed to the spot upon hearing the distress call.
A rescue operation was launched, successfully extracting all the women from the debris, who were then promptly transported to a government hospital. Tragically, three of the women were declared brought dead, and three others with severe injuries were referred to the civil hospital in Gurugram for further medical treatment. One worker is currently receiving treatment in Pataudi, according to the police.
The police have identified the deceased as Priyanka, Kola, and Billo. They stated that they will record the statement of Kiran Devi, the survivor of the mudslide, as part of their investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police Nishant Kumar Yadav confirmed that an inquiry into the matter is already underway, aiming to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
