According to police, the SUV entered the elevated road from Rajiv Chowk and was heading towards Vatika Chowk. The vehicle — which was part of a convoy of vehicles of Vikas Malu, owner of Kuber Group — caught fire on the elevated road before reaching Vatika Chowk.
The incident took place around 11am on Tuesday. According to the SUV driver, smoke started billowing out of the engine before the vehicle could reach Vatika Chowk. He along with five others, who were seated in the SUV, rushed out when the car came to a halt. Within minutes the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.
“Fire tenders doused the flames immediately and the traffic too was not disrupted for long,” said a police officer adding that the exact cause of fire is not known.
On June 6, two motorcycles and a Maruti Baleno had caught fire after a short-circuit triggered fire on an electricity pole at Sector 40 housing board colony. The sparks from the electricity pole fell on the Maruti Baleno parked near it, leading to a blaze.
