Gurgaon: The state government has decided to give a three-year relaxation to youths who have become overaged for applying to the Haryana Police. The move follows a three-year delay in the recruitment process. Recruitments for 6,000 posts in the force will start soon.
The DGP will send a proposal with the new age limit for different posts to the Haryana Staff Selection Commission. So, the upper age limit for exams to the post of a constable will be 28 against 25 earlier and 30 for an SI against 27 previously. The lower age limit for the post of a constable and an SI will be 18 and 21, respectively.
The youth continuously demanded age relaxation in police recruitment, stating that many applicants had passed the test three years ago. They said they too, could have applied if the recruitment had been done immediately after the CET.
Amit Sharma, a recruitment activist, said, “A combination of factors, including the pandemic and shortcomings in the government system, caused delay in the recruitment process. Additionally, last time, some youth could not apply due to being overage and were deprived of the opportunity.”
A representative from the CM office said, “We have not sent the proposal yet to conduct the exam. But, the decision has been taken to provide relaxation in age. The candidates waiting for their chance will get it this year only through relaxation.” Recruitment is pending for 5,000 male constable and 1,000 female constable posts in the Haryana police, with CET pass candidates from Group C deemed eligible, as the CET for Class III posts has already been conducted.
“Amendments in police recruitment rules are also being made due to CET. No decision has been made yet regarding SI recruitment, but there are demands for parallel initiation,” said a source from the CMO.
Age will be calculated from the first day of the month in which the advertisement is released. For instance, if the advertisement is released in Feb, then the age will be calculated based on Feb 1.
