Gurgaon: Facing losses, more than 11 industrial units in the city, have moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT), seeking 24-hour power supply and action against Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) officials. Industrialists in Sector 37 said they have been facing huge losses due to power cuts, and their workers are sitting idle because of disruptions in the supply.
There was a seven-hour outage in the area last Sunday. They also said power cuts have become regular despite repeated promises by DHBVN to optimise the supply.
“The industrial work has come to a halt due to long power cuts in our areas. We have complained to the DHBVN several times, but to no avail. They keep promising to provide a continuous power supply, but none of those promises are realised,” said PK Gupta, president of the Gurgaon unit of the Progressive Federation of Trade and Industry.
The industrialists also expressed their concern about the ban on diesel generator (DG) sets and urged the NGT to issue instructions against it.
“As per the guidelines of the NGT, there should be a 24-hour power supply in industrial areas, yet the DHBVN is continuously cutting power in Sector 37 industrial area. The power department is flouting the orders of NGT in the name of maintenance and smart grid projects. There were several outages on Sunday, which in total lasted six to seven hours. Due to this, industries are suffering losses running in crores. Operation of diesel generators in industrial units is prohibited under stages 3 and 4 of GRAP. In such a situation, due to power cuts, industrial production suffers huge losses,” read the letter submitted by the industrialists to the NGT.

MERC grants five-year extension to Tata Power’s 930 MW plant at Trombay to enter into fresh power purchase agreements. The extension includes Tata Power’s 36-year-old 500 MW coal-fired thermal set. Earlier order of phasing out the unit could have led to power shortage and affected Mumbai’s islanding prowess. MERC had suggested phasing out both sets of Trombay project and Adani Electricity’s 500 MW at Dahanu. The power purchase agreement for three sets at Trombay was applicable till March 2024. Tata Power must enter into a long-term power purchase agreement for its hydroelectric plants at Bhira, Khopoli, and Bhivpuri.
