Arora, who was the Faridabad police commissioner since September 2021, is expected to take charge of the top post in the city on Tuesday. He will become only the second IPS officer to have held the position of the top cop of two NCR cities in Haryana — Gurgaon and Faridabad— one after another. Before him, KK Rao had held the charge of both the cities. Arora has prior experience in the city; he was DCP (east) in 2010. 1994-batch IPS officer Kala Ramachandran was the first woman to lead the Gurgaon police commissionerate since its formation in 2017. After taking charge from KK Rao in February last year, she focused on traffic management and managed to bring down the crime rate in the Millennium City during her tenure.
Sources said there were some officers who had differences over the policing approach.
Ramachandran has been posted as ADGP (administration) at the Haryana Police headquarters, replacing Arshinder Singh Chawla from the position. Her husband Navdeep Singh Virk is also a former Gurgaon police commissioner.
In other transfers for Gurgaon, DCP (east) Nitish Agarwal will become the Mahendergarh SP, and DCP (traffic) Virender Vij will take up the vacated position as an additional charge.
Vij was DCP (east) before he was made DCP (traffic).
The reshuffle of top police posts is the first since Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor took charge as Haryana DGP on August 16. Kapoor continues to hold the charge of DG anti-corruption bureau. As the vigilance chief, he had given teeth to the department and increased its manpower.
Rakesh Arya, currently IG of Rohtak Range, will take over Arora’s position as the Faridabad police chief.
IG Ambala range Sibash Kabiraj gets additional charge of Panchkula police commissioner. Former Gurgaon police chief KK Rao, posted as the head of Indian Reserve Battalion (Bhondsi), was transferred as ADGP, Rohtak Range.
Amitabh Singh Dhillon, currently posted as IG (cyber and modernisation), was transferred as IG (anti-corruption bureau) with additional charge of IG (modernisation and welfare).
Simardeep Singh, currently posted as DIG STF, was transferred as DIG prisons. Maneesh Chaudhary will be IG CID. Arshinder Singh Chawal will be ADGP of Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, a newly formed unit for investigation into cases of illegal mining, encroachments and constructions, along with traffic fines and illicit liquor trade. Ajay Singhal, ADGP of the anti corruption bureau was transferred to the state crime branch. Om Prakash Singh will be the new ADGP, Cyber Haryana
