GURGAON: A 25-year-old driver of the DHBVN’s vigilance wing was arrested on Friday for allegedly crushing a 40-year-old cab driver to death the previous night. Hari Singh from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu was changing a flat tyre on a flyover near Rajiv Chowk when a Bolero rammed him. His cab had two passengers who escaped unhurt as they were standing on the roadside.
“My friend and I booked the cab around 10.30pm to shift my luggage from Sector 10A to Sector 17C. Just as we reached the Rajiv Chowk flyover, we realised that the rear tyre on the left side got punctured. Our driver asked us to come out and stand in a corner while he was changing it. When he started removing the tyre, a speeding Bolero hit him from behind, and he died on the spot,” one of the passengers, Jitendra Kumar, told police.
The police received a call about the accident around 10.45pm. “We found two mangled vehicles and the injured cabbie. We rushed him to the civil hospital in Sector 10, where he was declared dead. The SUV that hit the cabbie belongs to DHBVN’s vigilance wing. There were no officials in it,” said ASI Pradeep.
Bolero driver was booked under IPC sections 279 (negligent driving) and 304A (death by negligence) and arrested.

Two carjackers involved in the murder of a cabbie in south Delhi have been found to have targeted a Canadian national and a doctor in 2019 by posing as cabbies near the airport. They had also robbed a cab driver in Alipur this year. The suspects had planned to commit similar robberies using the stolen cab but were forced to abandon their plan due to the resistance shown by the cab driver. They wanted money to fight their pending court cases and planned to sell the stolen vehicle in Meerut. The suspects have been remanded to custody and the UP police may also seek their remand for investigation.

The drunk driver tried to escape but was caught by the son and others. Another person was also detained for trying to remove evidence from the car. Both the driver and the other person were arrested and charged with various offenses.
